National Barbeque Month 2018

3-color silkscreen poster, printed by Upright Press in Columbus. 2018

For National Barbeque Month, City Barbeque requested a limited-edition poster to celebrate the culture of authentic barbeque. This poster would be sold in their locations around the country as well as in the online shop.

As with all of my projects, I began with some thumbnail sketches to determine a concept and rough design layout.

After discussions with the marketing team as well as a few team members in the restaurants, the majority choice was C. It focused less on the month itself and more on the award-winning food that City Barbeque takes pride in.

The final poster was hand-drawn with ink on paper, then scanned and finished in Photoshop. With much experimentation of textures and colors, I was able to create the final image with only three colors.

My favorite aspect of working in silkscreen: You HAVE to be efficient with color. I loved limiting myself to three transparent color layers and discovering the ways they would interact when overlapping. With the right design choices, three colors can start to look like many more.
